Get TinyGrab 2.5 Beta 3 here.

This version is now recommended for nearly all Mac users – it’s much faster, and works much better.

Since it is a Beta version, some things are not yet complete or will change slightly in the final release version.  We believe it to be very stable, but request your feedback on any problems, sent to support@tinygrab.com or tweeted to us @tinygrab.

Features not yet included:

  • FTP uploads
  • SFTP uploads
  • Private / long-url grabs

If any of the features listed above are crucial for you, you should not download this version of the Beta.  They will be included in an upcoming Beta release.

We’ve made lots of progress since taking over TinyGrab a few months ago!  The TinyGrab ecosystem is larger and more complex than you may realize, and stabilizing it has been no easy task.

The Great Crash of 2011 was primarily due to server-related and domain-related issues, which affected everyone.  That had a cascading effect that required a very incomplete version of the TinyGrab 2.0 Client for Mac to be released, which caused completely different issues for Mac users.

Server / Cloud
To “stabilize” TinyGrab, we’ve had to address several different pieces, starting with the servers / cloud.  That’s the home-base that all applications talk to, and it must be reachable and reliable at all times.  The servers are now very reliable and working, but have a few quirks that we are in the process of fixing to solve some fringe problems that a few users are experiencing.

TinyGrab Mac Client
Next up, even though the server was reliable, most people were experiencing major problems with TinyGrab, making it virtually unusable.  For all intents and purposes, TinyGrab was still unstable for Mac.  Rather than slap a band-aid on the previous version, we undertook a complete re-write from the ground up, so it would be faster, more compatible, more stable, and easier to maintain going forward.  That re-write is nearing completion, and will make TinyGrab a much nicer experience for a huge number of Mac users.

Mobile Apps
We removed the iPhone app from the Apple store because it was buggy as well, and are in the process of rewriting that from the ground up, and can’t wait to re-release it!

After the iOS version, other mobile versions will be released shortly afterwards.

3rd Party API
There is a little-known API for TinyGrab that allows other services and developers to interact with the service.  This is largely working, and is in fact used by the TinyGrab client applications.  However, it is undocumented and has a few quirks and incomplete features that we’re finishing, so others can begin accessing the API.  Get ready!

Paid Premium Version & New Features
Much to everyone’s chagrin, the premium version of TinyGrab has been unavailable for nearly a year.  While it was buggy and unstable, we didn’t feel right about charging for it.  Now that the applications are getting back up to par, and the service is more reliable, we’re getting ready to re-release the paid version.  Along with this, we’re adding a few new features to the service.  Those features will be described when released – but they’re good!

Thanks for bearing with us, and if you gave up, we hope you’ll come try out TinyGrab again – it’s better than ever!

Well, over the past few months we’ve been hard at work behind the scenes to stabilize and transition TinyGrab over to its new home.  It has taken longer than we expected, but is going well – we’ve made substantial progress and we’re really excited to start releasing *visible* updates and improvements.

New-and-improved grab.by Page

Over this past weekend, we released a new-and-improved Grab.by page that brings back some of the better parts of the very original grab page, while adding new convenience features – social sharing, view counter, and notes.

Mobile Compatible

In addition to being less obtrusive on standard computers, this new grab.by page is now almost fully compatible with most mobile devices as well (tablets, smart phones).  We have more optimizations coming for mobile soon, but it’s now functional for the first time.  (pro tip:  touch the little orange arrow to collapse or open the sidebar)

This new grab.by page is published immediately and is now showing all TinyGrabs – you can see it here: http://grab.by/bnLI or with your own uploads.
